Rare Bird Communication Community Interest Company was founded in June 2025 by Company Director Claire Ann Tunstall. The services provided are aimed at benefiting the non-speaking community within the County of Cumbria. The term Rare Bird means an exceptional and unique individual - perfectly fitting for our Clientele and inspired by our very own Little Rare Bird 🐦⬛
Mission Statement
Rare Bird was formed with a mission in mind:
'To provide access to targeted support, from a qualified practitioner, to aid the unique needs of the non-speaker. Focusing on motor coaching and sensory / emotional regulation in order to teach the intentional and purposeful movements needed to spell to communicate using letter boards and/or keyboards. The ultimate aim is for non-speakers to reach open communication - meaning that they are able to access reliable and robust communication via the S2C method, increasing agency and autonomy and allowing non-speakers to have their authentic voices heard.'
'At Rare Bird, we want to promote communication equity, we believe that communication is a basic human right and aim to make it accessible to as many families as possible.. regardless of their financial situation'
